Pasta …as I like…

Pasta…pizza…risotto …are my favourite break….from the usual Indian food…I love…I love the way Jamie Oliver cooks…when I cook something other than Indian stuff…I do consider Jamie's recipes…last night I cooked…pasta …a bit of Jamie …& more mine…coz…his recipe is excellent…but very bland to my taste…so…I invariably spice it up…& the end product is yummilicious …!so here is my photo blog…of a spicy veggie pasta…I wish to write a cook book some day…most probably will look like this…simple steps in pictures…here it is

Penne…cream..tomato sauce…veggies

Step1…cook pasta in salted water..till done(10mins)..drain

Step2..tomato sauce…cook chopped tomatoes in little oil ,with salt,a grated garlic, for 6 mins..& mash it with a spoon

Step3..olive oil …chopped dry red chillies…grated garlic…chopped onions

Step4…add the veggies…pepper(all colors)..mushrooms…broccoli …toss

Finally…cooked pasta…fresh ground pepper..salt…and fresh cream

After 5 mins of cooking…a great looking pasta is ready..!!!!

Mamma sparrow& her baby

I feed the sparrows …everyday…so …once the little one can fly. . …mom always…brings the baby with her…feed it…& they both fly away…this morning…the baby came first…cried out for the mom…then she came…fed it…I love the noisy chirping of the baby sparrow…and as I have seen ..in the past few years…the little ones…continue to come to our balcony. They grow up..& then bring their own kids…

A photo blog…of a mom& little one..as seen today

Baby sparrow…comes first…& checks if there are bread crumbs left..

Hearing her baby's chirp…mom arrives too…

Asking mom…to feed….

Bit by bit…slowly mom begins to feed

Carefully…& neatly…

Finest of the crumbs…is fed…

These were in the early afternoon …they had gone…

This…in the evening…just as it was getting darker…last few crumbs…for the night…!

A parent…is a parent…!!!…whatever the species may b….& a kid is a kid ….too..:)

Zaanse Schans…authentic bit of holland

Amsterdam . ….is beautiful….but urbanised…we wanted to experience …the real Holland…so we took a day tour to Zaanse Schans…still don't know how they say it…&…it is such a hollandish experience…so here are some pics….some memories..

It is an hour and a half drive…from Amsterdam …and u reach…volendam…a quiet…village

It is famous for its sea food…fresh catch….served as per your wish…vijay had pickled herring…he said it was really good…he anyways like raw food

But…as I wasn't eating meat on that day…I opted for waffles..! It is a feast to see…waffle making…and the way it is served…I took the usual…clotted cream, with sprinkles…the yummiest waffles

Then it was time for cheese centre…it was interesting to see how it is made..& taste many varieties

Cheese shopping…the smoked cheese is fab…tastes good with everything…

Then…we took a ferry ride…to a picturesque fishing village Marken…wooden houses,mostly painted green…& the loveliest flowers…streets lined with fab trees…cobbled roads…and so very quiet

It was season of poppies…each house had them…!

Here…there is a clog(wooden shoes)…very Dutch …symbol…a factory is here…

Clogs are everywhere..!

Look at the cows shoes…:)))!!…it is a photo place…once you come out…u can pose however u want..&then take a picture…!

Souvenir 's for friends….

It was time for windmills….

This is…indieswelvaren …now used as a spice centre…walking inside a windmill…was an unusual feeling…!

Inside the windmill…the spices are stored like this …they are sold too…the smell of fresh ground cloves…cinnamon …was the last thing I expected …

As…you come out of this windmill area…there is a waffle kiosk…a traditional Dutch waffle…2 thin waffles…freshly made in front of you…a fresh caramel spread in between the two waffles..it is fresh…hot…and so very delicious…we heard that people travel from Amsterdam just to eat it…!

One gets a souvenir …too…a calendar (2014)…with your picture…they would have taken it as you enter the area…when you walk out…after an hour…voila.,!…u get this…

This place is full of birds…but naturally…what with so much green around you…but what impressed me…not a single bird flies away from you…they aren't scared…it shows they are treated well by the humans there…

This was our driver for the day…nice guy…funny..friendly…gave us some interesting info…2 which I like….tulips were never indigenous to holland!!…he said it may have come from Kashmir r Middle East ..!kashmir …probably…but Middle East …?? Second…carrots originated in that part of world…& to begin with they were anything but orange…it was in black, white…red…so on…it seems the royalty liked orange…it is their national color too…so the farmers ..genetically modified them to get this present orange carrots..!!!

As we drove back to Amsterdam …I realised…Zaanse Schans…represents all Dutch …authentic wooden homes in green…a cheese factory…a clog making centre…great sea food…& of course the windmills…

While in Amsterdam …a area of holland not to b missed

New visitors….

After a month long holiday ….when we came back home…all looked same in Sohar ….but this morning…as I sat & had my coffee…I noticed a bunch of wee birds…after some time I realised…they were the little ones of a pair of sunbirds…who frequent my balcony…& the quadrangle next to living room…here are few pics..of the little ones…few from inside…thro glass..mesh…later I slowly opened the window…& it was lovely to see the colors on those tiny birds

Very hot here…but the green never fades….:)

This may b a female bird…adult female has same colors

She knew…I was taking pics..!

This is the clearer version….

Isn't she pretty

Adult male….will have same colors

Tiny male bird….

There was this one too

One more…

Not sure…whether it is a male sunbird r the female…the plumage is still evolving

For next few days….will be watching these little ones
