Receding ocean…& the light….

A few weeks back…before I left to India …stayed at crowne plaza muscat…as vijay had to attend a conference…I did nothing but sit & watch the ocean….!

In my life hadn't seen a receding ocean…watched for 36 hrs…the way it receded…the way it filled up…weird…scary…intriguing ..!

While the ocean did that…I mean fill up.. Thin down …the play of light was lovely.. Sun light at different hours…is splendid…

This is a photo blog in two parts…1st…morning…noon

2nd …evening…nightfall

Here are my pics…some from iPhone ..some cannon

Early morning….a full ocean

Day break…the slight orange hue

As the sun rise

Under a bright shining sun…around 11 am

It starts receding by 12 pm

By 3 pm

By 4 pm

Just before sun set…

Blue joys

It is winter months here….I look forward for the cool wind…but also for the tiny flowers which bloom in the window boxes…one of them …morning glory…

This time…each day…I have had 3-5 flowers blooming in a day…the combination of white cement…green leaves…entwined on to them…along with the delicate blue flowers…is such a soothing sight

I call it window art….

It is so delicate…some times I feel….even a light breeze will break them….but they just sway …

These tender….fragile…dainty….blue flowers….never fail to drive away my winter blues….

The morning glory….

Often…..a poem

Often…..

At dusk….

As the sky gets darker….

As the birds ….

Fly back home….

As a hush….

Descends…

With silence…

All around me….

Often….

My thoughts…

Wanders away…

While memories….

Keep coming back…

Often…

I wonder….

Is it just me…

Or…

Is this what….

Each one…

Feels…..

That….

Can …I…

Ever….

Walk away…

From here…

To somewhere…

New….

Where….

No one….

Or….

Nothing…

Ever….

Pursue …me…

Prawns curry

Have been thinking …for some time now…to blog about a recipe…so finally today I decided it will be my prawns curry..vijay says…I have few signature dishes…and he thinks I make it the best…& one of them is this prawns curry…a Kerala recipe…learnt it after having gone thro many recipes…this one…turns out the best….

So… Here is my version of prawns curry…

We get some…wonderful prawns here….wash…clean…de vein.. & sprinkle some salt & turmeric …& keep it aside… BTW this is vijay's job..!

For the masala…a Tbspn of coriander powder…a Tbspn of chilli powder…3 green chillies…1/2 inch ginger…1/4 Tspn turmeric..grind to a paste

This is for the final seasoning….mustard seeds…a few fenugreek seeds….curry leaves…& finely chopped shallots

Along with the red masala paste…these things go into the gravy…2 medium onions…chopped length wise..curry leaves…raw mangoes chopped…

This is very special to Kerala…black tamarind or the kodumpalli…they say either u use mango r this tamarind…but I prefer using both…I find the tangy taste differs with both..& when they blend..it is a nice taste….

I cook this in an earthenware pot….mix the prawns…onions…mango…curry leaves….salt…keep aside

Grind the ingredients for masala…and mix with the prawns

This is coconut milk…I make it from a pack of nestle maggi coconut milk powder…I use 2 tea cups of powder…& mix it with 2 tea cups of Luke warm water…neither thick nor thin…

Pour it over the prawns…mix well..& put it on fire to cook….it looks pale…but …once it starts cooking …it gets the colour

As it cooks…get the seasoning ready…in a ladle …little oil…mustard seeds…fenugreek seeds….curry leaves…chopped shallots…& green chillies..

As it cooks…it gets the desired colour..!!

Now pour the seasoning on top…give a stir…& cook for another minute

Finally….it looks like this

And…here is our Sunday lunch….

Prawns curry…with hot basmati rice…& some green salad

Birds at ranganathittu sanctuary…

By now…there should have been a lot of them…but the birds from Russia ,Latin America …yet to arrive…managed to get pictures of few birds..

It is a cool place

A boat ride alongside of crocodiles

During my last visit to Mandya…one evening I wanted to de stress ….so went for a drive with my brother & cousins …& ended up at ranganathittu..the bird sanctuary….

Not many birds yet…birds from Russia ,are yet to arrive….but few which I got..will be in the 2nd part of this blog…this is for the crocodiles I saw…for years now I have never taken the boat ride, because of crocs…but this time my brothers didn't leave me…it was sort of weird…watching them watch us slyly…here are few pics..they say there are hundreds of them in the mangroves near by…since ages…but they have never attacked the humans or their cattle…they are happy with the fish they find in river cauvery!!
