Heidelberg castle

On one Tuesday morning we took a road trip…morning was spent in rothenburg …

Afternoon our driver/guide took us over to Heidelberg …

As you drive towards the famous castle ….on a hill…one can feel the aura …may be because of the times we have seen the castle on social media …movies…travel blogs…

Our driver george a very nice German …took us around…told us about the history…in a very likeable way…

The famous castle …a beauty in ruins…though was rebuilt many a times…it some how wasn’t liveable again…as they say once a ruin always a ruin

The main door which used to be locked during night times…by the way that is Mr.george…!

One of entrance…for the romantic castle …in earlier times…it seems if a boy asked the girl to meet him at the castle …& if she accepted and came…that meant love was in the air!

The stuck garden…after a long walk…an oasis for the tired mind ..& legs…

Just waiting for more sun…to blossom

Although …it is in ruins…it is all maintained..& nature is a big ally there…so many flowers…trees…bushes…

Wherever there are broken structures ,there are lush trees …endless ivy plants…flowering yellow bushes…sort of making the castle more beautiful…

Lot of small birds…this chaffinch & his endless sweet song!

This blue tit…shared my muffin…all the little ones…were around me..for those crumbs…

From the hilltop…the town..& famous church of Holy Spirit

Picture perfect town

The river…bridge…hills…

I loved this magnolia tree…looked like a chandelier!

As we came down…for a cup of coffee in town…one last view of that pretty ruins…as we stood at the university…

Pretty,beautiful,..& to say ruins…it is such a paradox…

But then to quote Mark twain…after visiting this…it seems he wrote lot of articles…and he famously said…

Misfortune has Infact improved this old town…!!!!

And it is said…after Mark twain wrote about this castle …lot of american & later Japanese tourists, started visiting this place…& slowly it became an iconic tourist destination …

As the skies got darker, slowly the April chill was in the air..time for us to leave…

With a cup of coffee…a pretzel..& our driver George’s talks…drove back to Frankfurt…

But one thing …I have always felt…& sort of confirmed again..,

History is full of pains…in whichever part of world …it is!
