Wellesley bridge

Childhood memories..,are precious..

&

Mostly happy ones…

This 250 yr bridge..the British era reminder ..still stands but not so strong..cars..scooters ok..

But no heavy vehicles

As an young boy vijay studied at this small town ..

Srirangaptna the land of Tippu …

Reminiscing…is soothing…

As vijay stood there speaking about his stories…the British …the Tippu sultan..

I could see he was reliving it!

I left him to himself …stood & watched the Cauvery flow..

Storks…sunbirds…swallows…All enjoying a bright December 31 morning…

What if there are no memories..I thought..

I don’t know the answer..

To co-exist

Often ….I have seen these two birds…sharing a rock or a twig…

Birds …yes!

But very different from each other…

One is quiet…& other quite an attention seeker…

In a frame…they are strikingly dissimilar ….

One tall…white…quiet

Other short..black..flashy…

It is obvious …they aren't friends…but they know each other..

One is named heron….

Other is cormorant…

Both waders…aquatic hunters…

They do their own stuff…but they seem to be at peace…

They coexist…so well…

Whenever I see them …I often think…why humans struggle to coexist…

If there is one thing I have learnt & appreciate in birds…it is the way they tolerate each other…

Live and let live…birds do it better than us….

Honeysuckle

It is many months…since she has been in our garden…

Morning..I noticed these first bunch of flowers…

Longish…whitish with a bit yellow tinge…a delicate fragrance…swaying in the morning breeze..

Very pretty …I thought ..

As I didn't know much about these flowers…I googled..& I found some interesting trivia..

Humming birds…love them..

But sad we don't have humming birds in India ..although we have a bit similar sunbirds..

A belief is ..when you have a honeysuckle in your garden …you are protected from all evil!

It simply signifies happiness ..a Victorian interpretation !

In numerology…it stands for number 3…joy of living

We have two colours..one is this ..white

& an other pinkish !

Thank god for google !

I would have never known all these facts…

Just a last word ..or quote to be precise..

Daughters…are sometimes …as familiar and intimate…as honeysuckles…in bloom…but mostly daughters were mysteries….Benjamin Alire Saenz

If there is any flower I would dedicate for my girl …it will be honeysuckle

Jaathre…fair…fete..

Jaathre…,

Had never been to one..

But vijay said one has to experience once!

So this evening…went to ragigudda jaathre…near home…

Not much of crowd person I’m!

But surprisingly…I was ok with it..

It was a sea of people!

If you ever want to see people walk…without any purpose…just like that…go to a fair…join in..& you walk..along..

Slowly…the colours…the din..the aromas…the talks…sink in!

And one drowns in that festive mood…

As the dusk…gave way to night…

As the lights shone brighter…

As the crowd swelled…

The carnival…got into me !

In all that chaos…there was a charm..there was a feel…there was a soul..

There was LIFE..,

When everything becomes monotonous..boring…

Go to a carnival ….jaathre…

You will feel alive ..

The balloons ..the ribbons..the bangles..the this & the thats…just made me feel good..

For once I didn’t feel people were loud..or misbehaved!

It was ok to be pushed..& to push others..

Which on other days I’ll detest..

There was a guy getting a tattoo done..dads name!

A guy with a flute amidst colourful pottery

A cart with Indian version of corn..

And

Another with American corn !

But 3 frames ..

My favourite!

A man with girl headbands,he had worn one too

A tray full of brightest roses ..which were actually hairpins..
And

A couple who were selling random stuff..the guy had convinced vijay to but an utensil..which I still don’t know how to use!he remembered vijay!i asked him where they slept at night? He said in the same shack! And I said what about your shower /bath..he said twice I have had..only after going home…😳

Fair…fete..fun for some..earning for some..

For me..a first!

Glad I went…

Remembered a quote …

Happiness is simply….a temporary condition….that proceeds…unhappiness

Fortunately for us…it works the other way around too..

But it’s all a part of the carnival ,isn’t it??

Federico Fellini
A carnival called life
